Nude Parties Along River

Mixed Swimming Parties Near Monessen To Be Investigated.

Authorities are investigating a number of nude midnight bathing parties along the upper Monongahela river and are seeking information which they hope will lead to the identity and arrest of the women and men bathers.

“Residents near the scenes of the mixed parties were aroused and authorities notified.”

Nude Parties Along Monongahela River

Residents near the scenes of the mixed parties were aroused and authorities notified. It is claimed that no less than three such parties have been held within the past week, one below Lock Four another near the Pittsburgh Steel Company, Speers beach and the other above the plant at Monessen. Two of the parties were held early Sunday morning and it is claimed that the participants were all under the influence of intoxicating liquor and created considerable disturbance.

A number of Charleroi and Belle Vernon young people are claimed to have staged a party about 2 a.m. Sunday. Previous to going to the river, the participants were said to have been drinking at a nearby camp.

Several weeks ago reports were current here of a nude swimming party at a local beach at which youthful members of both sexes participated but they were not confirmed. Coming of cooler weather in recent weeks has curtailed night bathing to a considerable extent and no similar incidents were reported.

  1. I would love to come across an obituary for one of these people that said something like: “Grandmother of ten, a graduate of Monongahela High School, enjoyed nude bathing at Lock Four and smoking behind the annex.”

  2. Thanks, that means a lot. I have tons of content to post. It’s just that I’m not a confident writer and tend to shy away from posting more frequently. I hope to start a series on the history of Pigeon Creek over the next few weeks.

  3. I grew up in Stoggletown and we fished, played and swam in pigeon creek and ice skated on it when it flooded and froze over. Looking forward to your future post about pigeon creek. — Gerald Leach

  4. We skated from Pete Russian’s (probably not correct spelling) junk yard down almost to the bridge at east main street. When the water receded we could still skate on the ice for a while until it started to thin and collapse. We also skated on the frozen ponds that formed from the water run off from the hills. We called all of them “frog ponds” — Gerald
